B-side of Custer’s Last Man

Oh good, more early Sixties novelty records! Although, unlike the interminable A-side Custer’s Last Man, this one is a bit less painful to listen to, a “parody” (i.e. total rip-off) of the Olympics’ Hully Gully taken at double speed, but you’ll be hard pressed to remember anything at all about it once it’s done playing.
Actually, that’s not completely fair – there’s a crushingly unfunny bit in the middle which does linger in the mind, where Popcorn gives us the directions to his made-up dance, (“you take some red ants and then you shake ’em in your pants”, he helpfully informs us) – but on the whole it’s not too horrible. Utterly forgettable, but not too horrible.

Indeed – though it’s an idea Berry Gordy just couldn’t let lie, year on year. Luckily, the only place this was ever actually a “craze” is inside Popcorn Wylie’s head.
Entertainingly, this is (according to the visitor stats) by far the least popular page on Motown Junkies to date.

“Oh good, more early Sixties novelty records!” Love your sarcasm here = ) To me these novelty records are like jokes that you have to be there to get. I don’t get these records and I can’t imagine how anyone thought these were funny.
