A footnote. If a single was re-issued at a later date with the same songs on both sides, I’ve followed the lead of The Complete Motown Singles series in not including it again. Re-pressings of sides featuring different versions of the same song don’t get separate reviews either. If, however, a single was reissued with a different B-side, or a song was re-used as a B-side for a new single, it’ll be listed above (though it won’t have a separate review). Bear with me, it’s been quite the balancing act to make this thing useable.

To avoid unnecessary duplication, the list mainly covers US releases, and only lists UK releases which hadn’t already appeared in America first (identified with a little British flag icon: UK Only). If you prefer, you can see a full list of British Motown releases covered so far instead.

What else…? The different colours in the artists’ names signify all the various different Motown sub-labels (yellow for Tamla, blue for Motown, purple for Gordy and so on); garish though it looks, this struck me as a good way to have a complete list of Motown singles while still being able to distinguish between labels at a glance. (If you’d prefer, you can still browse the catalogues of each individual label instead.)

Oh, and the coloured numbers after each title indicate the highly subjective mark out of ten I gave that song on the day I happened to write about it – ★ 10 ★ is the highest (reserved for my personal top fifty Motown tracks), (1) is the lowest. I never change the marks on a review, no matter if my opinions have changed over time.
