One of the first women to record for Motown, Sherri Taylor saw just one single released, and even that was a duet with the almost-as-obscure Singin’ Sammy Ward – albeit her place in history is still secure, as that single (1960’s Oh Lover) was the first duet ever released as a Motown single. Sherri came to Motown via a gospel background and a stint in her family group, the Taylor Tones, who had singles released on Lu-Pine Records, erstwhile home of the Primettes, later to become the Supremes – but unlike either Sammy or the Supremes, Sherri didn’t stick around at Hitsville, leaving the label in 1961 to return to the Taylor-Tones.
