Valadiers

** This is just a short biographical summary – for the full story, check out this artist’s reviews! **

Motown’s first white vocal group, the Valadiers arrived at Hitsville in 1961 (the previously integrated doo-woppers having supposedly made a line-up change at Motown’s request to become either an all-white or all-black group), recording three singles during their short time with the label. The group scored a minor chart hit with Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam) in late 1961, later revived by the Monitors, but otherwise commercial success was hard to come by, and the Valadiers broke up shortly afterwards, long before their Motown contract expired (although the label continued to issue material by the already-split group through to January 1963).
