Greer, Paula

** This is just a short biographical summary – for the full story, check out this artist’s reviews! **

Chicago jazz singer Paula Greer had a 40-year career in the nightclubs and jazz bars of the Windy City, but her brief stint with Motown’s short-lived Workshop Jazz label in 1963 seems to have been the only time she set foot in a studio. Motown president Berry Gordy had an ardent wish to run a successful jazz label, making Paula his flagship artist (the only Workshop Jazz act to be given more than one Motown single, as well as a full-length LP, I Did), but both sales and attention proved hard to come by and Paula returned to Chicago when Motown abandoned their jazz experiment, enjoying many successful years as a live performer. She passed away in 2007.
