Nick & the Jaguars

** This is just a short biographical summary – for the full story, check out this artist’s reviews! **

The first white act ever to release a Motown record, Nick and the Jaguars were a surf-rock band from Pontiac, Michigan who arranged a one-off deal with Berry Gordy in 1959 to release their pre-recorded guitar instrumental Ich-i-bon #1 as a Tamla single; the record failed to chart, and didn’t lead to the Jaguars actually signing with Motown.

The group seems to have changed their name to the Biscaynes shortly after their dalliance with Motown, releasing another record on Ridge Records, another Detroit label with a tangential but unspecified Motown connection.
