Gospel Stars

** This is just a short biographical summary – for the full story, check out this artist’s reviews! **

Veteran Detroit gospel ensemble the Gospel Stars had several recording sessions at Motown in 1960-61, resulting in two singles and an album. It was the LP – 1961’s The Great Gospel Stars – which secured the Gospel Stars’ place in Motown history, as this was the very first album ever released on any Motown label. That’s right: at 33 1/3 rpm, before the Miracles, Temptations, Marvelettes or Supremes came the Gospel Stars.

The group left Motown in 1961, but Motown continued to release their recorded material up to 1963.
