Alan, Lee

** This is just a short biographical summary – for the full story, check out this artist’s reviews! **

A radio DJ with WXYZ and a well-known Detroit media personality, Lee Alan recorded a 1963 tie-in record at Hitsville for his show Lee Alan On The Horn, featuring several of Motown’s top names (Martha and the Vandellas on backing vocals, with Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson pitching in with the, um, wacky antics) in aid of the YMCA Camp Fund. Motown PR chief Al Abrams was no fan of Alan, alleging Alan’s attitude to Motown’s black artists before they were famous was, um, rather different to his behaviour once they were bankable names.
